Transformers: Dark of the Moon

The war between the Autobots and the Decepticons continues as the human race comes to learn that landing on the moon was a larger leap for mankind then anyone knew. Optimus Prime alongside the Autobots are still searching for their enemies including a new Decepticon hidden in the ruins of Chernobyl, Shockwave who turns out to be guarding part of a lost Autobot ship upon discovering this, Optimus realizes that secrets are being hidden from the otherworldly bots. Meanwhile Sam Witwicky is trying to settle into everyday life with new girlfriend Carly Spencer, though he's dragged back into the on going war when he finds himself holding evidence that shows Sentinel Prime, whom Optimus brings to earth from the long dead Autobot ship hidden on the moon may be keeping something hidden as well. The Decepticons finally put into motion a plot that will bring humanity to its knees and crush the Autobots alongside them, with the trap closing and odds stacked against them can Optimus and the Autobots prevent Megatron from finally taking control of the planet and save humanity?

People can say what they like i find the human element of Transformers great, with both Shia LaBeouf as usual providing alot of the humor and quirkiness of the film while Rosie Huntington-Whiteley provides the good looks and in a way motivation for Sam to be a Hero. Unlike Megan Fox in the previous films who played the role of the love interest in a slightly pervy and shallow way, there's something charming and rather light hearted in the new relationship between Sam and new girl Carly. All the recurring characters are played at there best including Sam's awkward parents, agent Simmons(John Turturro) and the two military specialists Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and Ebbs(Tyrese Gibson). Alongside the veterans are also a group of new minor characters each one adding a great deal of fun to the dark and emotional atmosphere with Simmons' bodyguard, Dutch (Alan Tudyk) who seems to flicker between camp to 'Nam like flashbacks, Bruce Brazos (John Malkovitch) Sam's crazy and unbalanced new boss and Jerry Wang(Ken Jeong) a pawn of the Decepticons who will try anything to warn Sam of the danger they all face. The Leader of the Autobots Optimus(Peter Cullen) and Decepticons Megatron(Hugo Weaving) are again played with valor and hatred as they come face to face once again with two new villains in the form of Dylan Gould(Patrick Dempsey) Carly's sinister boss who refers to the Decepticons as his clients and Sentinel Prime(Leonard Nimoy) the legendary leader of the Autobots and eventual double crosser who calls a truce with Megatron to save Cybertron and ensnare mankind.

Anyone who goes to see this film would most likely know there walking into a huge fiery mess of explosions with robots vs robots and giant amounts of eye shattering visuals, that's what transformers is. It doesn't try and sugar coat it but it embraces the nature of Transformers which is Good Vs Evil, Autobots Vs Decepticons, Optimus Vs Megatron and in between them are the humans who just happen to get involved but the fact you actually care about the characters and whats happening in their world is a big improvement on the original idea of two battling slabs of metal. Sure, it's a long film and some aspects of the story could be more developed but as far as the Transformers films go this stands as an epic war between the two warring robot factions unlike the mild stand offs, this is one final battle that the Autobots go all out in a bid to finally put an end to the Decepticons. There are a few things about the film that do put it down including the detail it puts into some of the new bots giving Sentinel Prime a full background while others seem to go unnoticed including Dino, the awesome Ferrari with dual blades(Seriously, i had to look up his name) and the idea that Megatron seemed almost non existent in the film until the last 20 minutes in comparison to Shockwave who seemed to headlight as the main Decepticon. In an overview Bay has done it again, but this time thrown more emotion into the waves of CGI and special effects, creating a grand scale battle/invasion in Chicago which really is a treat to the eyes, So if you liked the previous films but wanted more than met the eye from them, then this is a real transformation in terms of scale yet does still falter in places but overall secures it's place as a summer blockbuster in terms of size.

Oblivion

Cruise is back doing what comes naturally. No, not impossible missions, this time round Cruise is back on Sci-fi but instead of running from crimes he already commit in the future(How long has it been now since minority report?) he finds himself the maintenance man of a post-apocalyptic earth in 2077. Jack Harper is technician #49 of a group specifically tasked with keeping Earth's remaining defences up and running, alongside partner Victoria he awaits the coming full transportation to the new human colony on Titan. Being one of the last to leave Earth, both are anxious about the final few days of maintenance before they can finally leave the blue planet behind them, though for different reasons. While Victoria is increasingly eager to start a new life, something digs at Jack who still relates some connection to the planet no matter how void of life. It's only after a crashed pod brings an echo of human life back to earth that Jack and Victoria are torn in their views, as Jack

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

The Year is 2019. The Avengers have won. DC is almost nowhere to be seen and the Dark Universal Monsters Universe has hopefully been lost somewhere in the black sea. Wait... What is that? Is that a monster movie?? Is that Japans great lizard/Americanised cousin? Yes. Yes it is and he's here to show the world what he's made of! While first reading this you'll most likely be saying 'Wait. stop. Isn't that the Godzilla movie which critics are panning and hasn't scraped the box office??? Well on a technical level you'd be right, but sit right there and let me riff a little here; Godzilla: King of the monsters takes a giant radioactive step from the world of 2014's first outing for the new Godzilla and actually shows more than 8 minutes (No really go back and see just how much he's in the film...) of the big green not referring to Mark Ruffalo but japan's own green wrecking machine. Godzilla is king. Especially in terms of monster brawls and I can

The Three Musketeers

Paul W.S Anderson takes a break from zombies to bring a new adaption of the musketeers and their thrilling adventures or so they should be. Athos, Aramis and Parthos are the legendary three musketeers known throughout France for their courage and bravery (in this version they appear to be a renaissance version of the A-Team for some reason...)  yet when one adventure in Venice goes wrong with the betrayal of Milady de Winter the three fall from their pedestal of honors and find themselves hiding away, leaving their status to fade to that of a myth. One year on D'Artagnan, an upstart and arrogant young lad travels to Paris in the hopes of becoming a musketeer, while other cogs begin to turn as the Cardinal of France begins his own plot to change the shape of France and take control from the king. The task then falls to the out of luck musketeers who set out to help France in a time of need, gain back their respect and put a stop to the Cardinal's plot. Matthew Mcfayden(Athos),
