Fright Night

This monster remake brings true vampires back with a bite. When a number of students start disappearing from school, Ed a paranormal nut and seeming to be twilight reader believes that the lack of class numbers is in correlation to the arrival of his friends new neighbor Jerry. Charley Brewster Ed's best friend, dismisses the ramblings of Ed and ditches him for his girlfriend but that night when his friend doesn't show up like the others, Charley thinks his friend may have been onto something. After being unnerved by the new neighbor and fearing that he may strike at his family and friends Charley steps up to the plate for an old fashion slaying, even going as far as attempting to enlist vampire expert Peter Vincent. When Jerry unleashes hell upon Charley and raises the stakes the two go into all out war and this time its slay, or be killed.

Anton Yelchin takes the lead as Charley Brewster who is faced with the fight of his life with supernatural forces, the nerd feel and awkward teen blend well as the character develops into a vampire hunter over the guilt of his friend and willingness to protect those he loves and Yelchin fits the role perfectly. The evil vampire in question is played by Colin Farrell, hiding in plain sight and even in a simple conversation can sound threatening, Farrel brings the ferocious monster to life incorporating a no nonsense approach to the undead and yet still having the kinds of things women folk will enjoy. Brilliantly playing Peter Vincent is David Tennant  who once again finds himself facing otherworldly oddities, as his foul mouth character spouts vamperical nonsense and harbours means to fight any threat, he can't hide his fear and at the same time he still impresses as a character who joins the fight against the deceased evil. Other notable characters are Ed who as Christopher Muntz-Plazze plays the usual goofy nerd well and then the charming ladies of the film Toni Collette as the whimsical mother of Charley, While Imogen Poots plays the beautiful love interest, Amy.

Fright Night really throws a cover over things like Twilight and the Vampire Diaries bringing back the actual view that albeit vampires being sexy, they in actual fact turn people into them and if they don't do that they'll probably kill you. Luckily in this film Charley doesn't fall head over heels for Jerry, instead choosing the option to try and slay him instead as people would do in the previous era of vampire films. This film while not only throwing a fighting punch into the fray of vampire rubbish is also a darn good film pulling on the feel of it's mix of Horror/Comedy, it easily finds the middle-ground watching teenagers being all in love the next second then switching to Jerry having a quick bite to eat. This film isn't just for those who want to remember the days of decent vampires but to anyone who wants to be entertained, have a laugh and enjoy a film. To those who have already seen the original or those out there who like twilight, watch this film and learn that most vamp's don't play nice.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Impossibly the fourth in the franchise isn't a mission too far and proves itself a worthy edition. Ethan hunt is back, after breaking out of prison in Moscow with the help of the IMF he's brought up to speed and forced into a new mission to infiltrate the heart of Russia itself, the Kremlin. Mid mission things go sour and the operation is called off as Hunt still in disguise escapes the Kremlin behind him bursts into flames, the Russians view this as an act of war sending Hunt and his team on the run. Meeting with the secretary of defense in secret Hunt is informed that the whole IMF has been disbanded, Hunt is on his own and the orders are to take him in... Unless he chooses to accept a new mission. The president activates ghost protocol meaning the remnants of the IMF must on their own discover who's responsible for bombing the Kremlin, bring them to justice and at the same time prevent a nuclear holocaust sparking between Russia and America.  Tom Cruis...

Seven Psychopaths

A roaring black comedy from the same man behind In Bruges, Martin McDonagh and the same camera stealing jaw of Colin Farrell in the front. Struggling screenwriter Marty talks to his friend Billy about the perils of making a successful script which includes stepping into the mind of the psychopaths of the world. While Marty sets about ideas of Vietnamese priests seeking revenge, Billy who's own profession is kidnapping dogs and picking up a fetching reward for their recovery has a more plausible suggestion to get his pal back on track, well as much on the right track as a script about psychopaths can be. Putting an add in a local paper including Marty's address and subtitled 'Psychopaths wanted' things get complicated, though at the same time the new Shitzu puppy Billy snatched turns out to be the beloved dog of local insane mobster Charlie. Marty, Billy and another lovable rouge in the shape of Hans and his necktie collection find t...

Killing Them Softly

For a film so quiet in procedure the presentation is pretty damn loud giving us an American crime thriller the likes that hasn't been done so low key yet intensely gripping in a long while. When a high-stakes poker game is robbed by two armed gunmen, Jackie Cogan is sent to clean up the mess and find out who's responsible. While the thieves Frankie and Russell are celebrating their achievements unaware of Cogan's presence and the holder of the game, Markie Trattman's who previously robbed one of his own games violent encounter. Soon Frankie realizes the situation he's gotten himself into, the serious rate of return those he robbed want and aware that time is running short for him and everyone else involved. What seems like at first a dream way out of a poor and shady life changes into a tragic demise as Cogan himself sets out to even the score. With thieves, killers and contacted hit-men all out to in full force, the key thing for all of them is the fact that it...
