First off this is the only scream I've ever seen, so i can't in anyway compare it to the previous three however and can give a definitive view on 4, and I'm going to be honest i don't often watch a lot of horror then again films but then again this isn't really a classic horror style film more over its an awesomely good satirical look at what horror films try to be. It starts off with a star studded mock film within a film within a film(a bit like inception)called Stab and several sequels and when i comes to the actual film and the murders start flying, its already started to entertain. The main flow of the story kicks off when Sidney Presscott(the survivor of the first three) returns to her home of Woodsboro to promote her book and all hell breaks loose and the events that occurred 15 years prior begin to repeat themselves but this time for her cousin Jill Roberts and her group of friends.
Every role in this film is good but i did really enjoy the idiot cop routine of sheriff Dwight 'Dewey' Riley and felt whenever he came on screen a face-plam moment was inevitalbe and somehow that wasn't a bad thing it was entertaining. Whilst all characters kept to the general view of other horror movie stereotypes, and poking fun in their own way, while Hayden Panetteire showed she doesn't have to be the innocent little damsel in distress cheerleader and actually is quite a good actress also again i haven't seen the others but i think Neve Campbell(Sidney Presscott) makes a good hero to keep coming back to, i thought if someone was playing the same person for four films straight the acting would start to lose it but she made a good repeat hero and made me want to watch the originals. The only thing other than that which really stood out and this isn't really anything more than a random observation but when did Courteney Cox get so old.
All in all, Scream 4 is great its not a gory, over the top, slasher which takes its self so serious it thinks its a documentary, but its more a film made for a good laugh, general entertainment and just plain amusement and because of its almost a parody trying to keep a straight face while outwardly mocking something to its face. A great film which does exactly what it aims to and keeps you entertained for the whole duration, with gags and gore, though not exactly for the whole family.
